How does HDTV compare to a standard definition television?
To start, television images are divided into horizontal lines. More lines equals better picture quality. Standard TVs display a maximum of 480 horizontal lines at a time and HDTV displays 780-1080 viewable lines of resolution. That's almost double the picture clarity!
HDTV also differs from standard TVs in "aspect ratio" or how the picture is presented in height and width. HDTV uses a wide-screen format (like a movie theater) of 16:9 and standard television of 4:3. Now you can watch movies the way they were meant to be seen!
See movies as they were meant to be seen!
Vivid color with a wide range of hues (like purples and reds) without any bleeding at the edges of the image.
Very detailed, sharp picture image that can only be viewed with High Definition TV and converter. You will be amazed at the quality and detail never before seen through a standard TV.
HDTV's wide-screen format is the same format used in movie theaters.
Dolby digital 5.1 Surround Sound is provided on all HDTV programming - a true theater-like sound.
What do I need in order to have such a clear picture?
In order to enjoy true HD sound and picture, you must own a HDTV-ready or HDTV-capable television and subscribe to MetroCast High Definition service (digital service is also required). One without the other will not broadcast in high definition. To contact our Customer Service Department for more information and pricing of HD service, click here.
